Election Do Over
1. In the election of November 2019, it was ruled that the ballots were tampered with and Republican Mark Harris beat Democrat Dan McCready by less than 1,000 votes. His victory was never certified by the state after tampering allegations were publicized.
2. State investigators accuse Leslie Dowless of leading a coordinated scheme to unlawfully collect, falsely witness, and tamper with absentee ballots.
3. 5th Amendment
4. The state can call for a new election if the election wasn't fair.
5. Dowless used absentee ballot request forms from past elections to fill in 2018 election forms, and then sent out workers to find the voters of the forms and have them request a ballot and sign. About 780 workers were paid to collect these ballots and sign as witnesses.
6. The board has 3 Democrats and 2 Republicans, which ensures fairness because it does not heavily favor a particular side.
7. The group would fill in names for the empty offices on incomplete and unsealed absentee ballots.
