The Govt is Shut Down

1. The second longest government shutdown was in December 1995 and lasted 21 days.
2. The departments of Labor, Energy, Defense, Health and Human Services, Veteran Affairs, and Education are not affected by this shutdown.
3. The difference between essential and nonessential employees is that essential employees have to keep working without getting paid as if the government is not shut down, and nonessential employees are furloughed, which means they have to stay home without pay until the government starts up again.
4. The two departments with the highest percent of furloughed employees are the departments of Commerce and Housing and Urban Development.
5. The NSF and NASA/EPA are the two agencies with the highest percentage of furloughed employees.
6. Maryland, Alaska, and Montana have the most employees impacted by the shutdown.
7. The Panda Cam was deemed nonessential and has stopped streaming, it won't stream again until the government shutdown ends.
8. The government can shave $1.2 billion off the real GDP every week the government stays shut down.
9. On January 11, the shutdown had cost the economy $3.6 billion. On January 25, it will have cost the economy $7.1 billion.
