Ending Birthright Citizenship
1. Trump wants to end birthright citizenship for undocumented immigrant’s children who are born in the USA.
2. The 14th Amendment says that people born in America are citizens.
3. Trump claims that America is the only country that gives birthright citizenship, however over 30 other countries do the same.
4. Before Trump could sign an executive order it would have to be looked over by the Department of Justice to determine how legal it is, and the Department of Homeland Security as well as other departments would review it to determine its consequences.
5. The Supreme court decided that all children born to non-citizens in America would be American citizens.
6. He would feel that this case gives him legal grounds for this executive order because his deportation order was challenged due to an undocumented immigrant having American born children who were citizens, and no legal finding was ever done.
7. With Trump appointing Kavanaugh, he has two judges on the Supreme Court that he appointed, and he can trust that with a conservative majority, they would likely side with him.
